In 1816, Niederpesterwitz was part of the Amt Dresden. Until 1834, it formed Pesterwitz with Oberpesterwitz. It belonged to the Rittergut Pesterwitz. From 1856 to 1875, Niederpesterwitz was part of the Döhlen court district. Later, it joined Amtshauptmannschaft Dresden.
Niederpesterwitz grew with the expansion of the region. The population increased. In 1915, Niederpesterwitz merged with Potschappel. In 1921, it became part of the new city of Freital. Since then, Niederpesterwitz has only existed as a district.
In 1834, Niederpesterwitz had 222 residents. By 1871, the population was 961. In 1890, it rose to 1006. By 1910, it reached 1012.
Walter Henke was born in Niederpesterwitz in 1905. He was a chess composer. He died in Freital in 1991. Siegfried Mühle was born in Niederpesterwitz in 1937. He was a military scientist.
