Stepping into the vibrant Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, you’ll find the Igreja Batista Atitude. It’s more than just a church. It’s a pulsing heart of faith, music, and community. The Igreja Batista Atitude started humbly in 2000. Pastor Josué Valandro Jr. led a small group in a public school. This small gathering blossomed into the thriving megachurch we see today. The church’s journey took it from a school, to a hotel ballroom, then a house. Now it resides in a modern temple, complete with state-of-the-art sound and lighting. The Igreja Batista Atitude even broadcasts its services online, extending its reach far beyond Rio. Originally called Igreja Batista Central da Barra, the name changed as the church grew. The main church became Igreja Batista Atitude Central da Barra, while daughter churches adopted the name Igreja Batista Atitude, followed by their location. This church isn’t just a Sunday service. It’s a network of over 10,000 members connected through small groups called cells. The church also has a vibrant music ministry, Ministéiro Atitude, which is even signed to the gospel label MK Music. During Rio’s Carnival, the church organizes the evangelistic bloco “Sou Cheio de Amor”. The Igreja Batista Atitude’s influence extends beyond its walls. It birthed the Rede Supere de Igrejas and the Universidade Atitude. The church also launched its own pastoral model, the MPS – Modelo de Pastoreio Simplificado, in 2023. Igreja Batista Atitude has branches across Brazil, in cities like Duque de Caxias, Ilha do Governador, and Petrópolis. Its reach even stretches internationally, with locations in Orlando and Vancouver. The church’s congregation includes some notable figures. Former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro has been a member since 2017. She even served in the church’s sign language ministry. She introduced her husband, former President Jair Bolsonaro, to Pastor Valandro Jr. The Igreja Batista Atitude’s story is one of humble beginnings, impressive growth, and a deep commitment to community and faith.
