Wonder how many couples have started their lives together at the Sanctuary at Admiral. This isn’t just another building in West Seattle. The Sanctuary at Admiral is a landmark with a story.

Originally, this beautiful Art Deco building was the Sixth Church of Christ Scientist. The congregation had been meeting in homes and rented spaces since 1913. They wanted a dedicated space. In 1929, they voted to build their own church.

Seattle architect Gerald C. Field designed the building. Contractor Neil McDonald brought Field’s vision to life. The cornerstone was laid on October 9, 1929. Construction finished in December of the same year.

For decades, the Sixth Church of Christ Scientist served its community. But times change. In the late 20th century, membership declined. In 2002, the congregation made a difficult decision. They chose to sell the building and merge with Fourteenth Church of Christ Scientist.

Fortunately, this architectural gem didn’t disappear. It was reborn as the Sanctuary at Admiral. Today, it’s a sought-after venue for weddings and banquets. The Sanctuary at Admiral still stands as a testament to Seattle’s history. The city recognized its significance by listing it as a Seattle Landmark.

Step inside and you’re greeted by a courtyard. Wrought iron gates and landscaping create a welcoming space. The foyer boasts a diamond-patterned terrazzo floor. Look up and you’ll see a soaring 25-foot ceiling.

The Grand Room is the heart of the Sanctuary at Admiral. It can host 150 guests for seated events. For cocktail parties, it can accommodate 200. The stage area features dark mahogany paneling. Hand-painted murals adorn the walls and ceiling.

Many elements contribute to the Sanctuary at Admiral’s charm. It has an exquisite main room. The Speakeasy-themed lounge adds a touch of vintage flair. Its 1929 Art Deco design imbues every event with elegance. The Duos Company manages the Sanctuary at Admiral today. They also provide catering services. Duos Catering, A Grand Affaire, and Foodz Catering work together. Their goal is to create flawless wedding events. They ensure a seamless atmosphere for every celebration.

From its beginnings as a church, to its current role as an event space, the Sanctuary at Admiral has always been a place for community and celebration. It’s a place where memories are made. A place where history and elegance come together.
