In 2023, the Laborgebäude at HTW Dresden buzzed with anticipation. A new era was dawning. The Laborgebäude, a vital part of the HTW Dresden campus, was about to expand. The existing Laborgebäude already housed the chemistry, physics, and civil engineering departments. Its unique L-shape embraced a central atrium, a hub of activity. But the future held even more. A groundbreaking ceremony, attended by prominent figures like Saxon Minister President Michael Kretschmer, marked the start of construction. This new addition to the Laborgebäude would cost 63 million euros. The EU and the state of Saxony shared the cost, demonstrating the project’s significance. The expansion would create a new home for materials technology labs. These labs would be dedicated to concrete technology, geotechnics, and hydraulic engineering. New classrooms and computer labs for computer science and mathematics were also planned. The Faculty of Design’s workshops and a creative center would also find a place within the new walls of the Laborgebäude. The project aimed for a Gold Standard certification for sustainable building. This commitment reflected the growing importance of eco-friendly construction. The Laborgebäude’s expansion would bring the campus closer together, physically and aesthetically. It promised a brighter future for students, faculty, and research at HTW Dresden.
