The mosque officially opened on May 2, 2003. Dr Professor Yaacob Ibrahim inaugurated it on September 19, 2004. He was the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources. He also served as Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs.

The four-story Masjid Al Iman accommodates 5,000 worshippers. It features a basement car park. It also holds 18 classrooms. An auditorium seats 130 people. A computer room serves the community. A lift provides access to all floors.
The jewel-shaped dome represents unity. It symbolizes the connection between Allah and his servants. The multi-painted star tinted glass roof shows openness. The six minarets symbolize the six tenets of Iman. One minaret is stylized. It is based on the jewel-shaped dome. It signifies concentration and victory. The minaret also provides a high point. From there, people are called to prayer. It is lit at night. It highlights the crescent and star.
The Al Iman Mosque Management Board guides the mosque. Ridzwan Bin Abu Bakar serves as the Mosque Executive Chairman. Muhammad Saleh Abdul Rahiman is the Vice Chairman I. Nuraziela Mohamed Suhadi is Vice Chairman II. These individuals work together. They ensure the mosque continues to serve its community.
