Need a moment of peace? Masjid Jami Al Sofwa offers just that. Despite its location on a main road the Masjid Al Sofwa is surprisingly tranquil.
Welcome to Masjid Jami Al Sofwa in Jakarta. This mosque is not just a place of worship. It is a community hub with diverse activities. Masjid Jami Al Sofwa is a Sunni mosque. It hosts regular studies after the Subuh and Maghrib prayers. These sessions cover many topics.
The Masjid Jami Al Sofwa building has two floors. The first floor houses the office. The second floor is for prayers. Its unique dome is a striking green color. Inside, the mosque features spacious prayer halls. Red maroon carpets cover the floor. Women have access to provided mukena prayer garments. Parking is ample. Cars park in front. Motorbikes have a designated area beside the mosque.
Since 2000, Masjid Al-Sofwa has stood here. The Al-Sofwa Foundation manages it. The mosque actively supports the community. It provides aid to Muslims in need. The mosque’s social department focuses on empowering people. They offer financial support and technical assistance. Their efforts extend to Bekasi and Magelang. In Bekasi they promote independent community economies. They have provided revolving funds to 59 people. These funds total around Rp 40 million. In Magelang they are developing goat breeding programs. This initiative began after the Mount Merapi eruption in 2010.
Masjid Al-Sofwa also supports its local community. It helps 45 orphans. Each child receives Rp 150000 monthly. They also get essential food supplies. The total support per child is Rp 250000 each month.
Since December 11, 2012 Masjid Al-Sofwa provides a free ambulance service. This service is available 24/7. Users only need to fill out a form. Staff are prohibited from accepting any form of payment. Donations are directed to the official mosque account.
During Ramadan Masjid Al-Sofwa provides free food for breaking the fast. It also prepares meals for those staying overnight during the last ten days of Ramadan. However, the mosque limits the number of participants for i’tikaf.
Beyond social activities Masjid Al-Sofwa actively organizes lectures. During Ramadan it holds Islamic studies. These take place before breaking the fast after Tarawih prayers and after the Subuh prayer.
The Masjid Jami’ Al-Sofwa hosts routine studies. Every Monday to Friday, there is Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an from 4 PM to 5 PM. It teaches children from elementary school how to read and memorize the Quran. They learn about Aqidah Fiqih Akhlak and Sirah. Alumni of MAIS Cilacap and students of LIPIA Jakarta teach here.
There are also regular studies after the Maghrib prayer. On Fridays Ust. Hasan Al-Jaizy Lc teaches Hadith from Shahih Al-Bukhori. On Saturdays Ust. Fuad Ahmadi teaches Tafsir from Tafsir Ibn Katsir. On Sundays Ust. Abdurrahman teaches Tahsin and Tajwid Al-Qur’an with the Asy-Syafi’i method. Monday features Adab and Akhlak by Ust. Habib Salim Muhdor. On the second and fourth Tuesdays Ust. Amiruddin teaches Fiqh from Fiqhus Sunnah. The first third and fifth Tuesdays offer Hadith by Ust. Ade Said from Riyadhus Sholihin. Every Wednesday Ust. Abu Bakar M Altway teaches Siroh Nabawiyah from Bidayah wan Nihayah. The first and third Thursdays feature Tazkiyatun Nufus by Ust. Ahmad Rofi’i. The second and fourth Thursdays have Hadith by Ust. Datyadikara.
Ahad Subuh studies include Fiqh Keluarga by Ust. Muhammad Rulyandi. Tafsir is taught by Ust. Ahmad Farhan Hamim. There are also thematic lectures and Hadith studies.
Masjid Jami’ Al-Sofwa also provides special studies for women. These take place on Saturdays. Ust. Kholif Mutaqin teaches. The curriculum includes guidance on reading the Quran Fiqh Aqidah Hadith and Tazkiyatun Nufus.
