A pioneering aviator’s legacy. That’s what Rue Kimmerling whispers. Right here in Lyon’s 3rd arrondissement this unassuming street holds a captivating story. Rue Kimmerling isn’t just a street. It’s a tribute to Albert Kimmerling a pioneer of aviation. He was born in 1882 in Saint-Rambert-l’Île-Barbe. Kimmerling made history in July 1911. He made the first ever flight across Lyon. He soared above the city arriving from La Mulatière. He followed the Rhône River to Saint-Clair. Spectators cheered his daring feat. Sadly his life was cut short.
