Is this heaven? No, it’s just the former site of the Bible Truth Church of God! Well, not exactly heaven, but this unassuming building, once clad in corrugated iron, held a special place in the hearts of its congregation. The Bible Truth Church of God, established here in the 1890s, wasn’t always buzzing with gospel hymns and inspiring sermons. It originally served as a Primitive Methodist chapel, its tin walls echoing with a different kind of faith. Imagine the scene in 1962, when this humble structure transitioned to become the home of the Bible Truth Church of God, a congregation with roots in Barbados and a headquarters in New York. The building, a far cry from grand cathedrals, stood as a testament to the enduring power of faith, serving as a beacon for over 50 years. Sadly, the Bible Truth Church of God said goodbye to its tin tabernacle in 2021, the corrugated iron making way for a new chapter in the church’s story. Though the building is gone, the echoes of its history continue to resonate.
