Campolide is a civil parish of Lisbon. It is a district too. Campolide sits west of Avenidas Novas. It lies north of Campo de Ourique. Campolide stretches east of Benfica. It nestles south of Sao Domingos de Benfica.

Campolide’s history is rich. A major battle occurred here on September 5, 1833. Dom Miguel’s forces attacked Dom Pedro’s troops. Pedro sought to regain control of Portugal. He wanted it back from his brother. Campolide became a freguesia of Lisbon on February 7, 1959.

Campolide faced a tense situation August 7, 2008. Two Brazilian robbers targeted a Banco Espirito Santo branch. They kidnapped six hostages. The bank manager was among them. Portuguese police special forces intervened. The hostage situation ended.

One of the greatest emblematic works stands out in Campolide’s landscape. It marks the evolution of water supply services in Portugal. It is the Aguas Livres Aqueduct. This national monument crosses the entire neighborhood. It inspires admiration. You can visit the aqueduct. You can also visit the Mae d’Agua das Amoreiras Reservoir. House hunting in Campolide provides access to international schools. There are top-tier hospitals and major shopping centers. The Fertagus train line connects Lisbon to the Setubal Peninsula. It also connects to the scenic Arrabida Natural Park.

Campolide Train Station was designed by architect Motta Guedes. Tile panels are by Eduardo Nery and Andreas Stocklein. Sculptures called “Imaginary Cities” by Charters de Almeida stand in front of the station.
