Lake City Christian Church

In August 1985, a small group of believers gathered in a humble home, laying the foundation for what would become Lake City Christian Church. This initial meeting, with just twenty-six people, marked the beginning of a journey of faith and community. Lake City Christian Church didn’t have a traditional start. For nineteen months, the congregation met in a hardware store in downtown Lake City, Florida. During this time, they established a name, charter, bylaws, and elected officers. On November 3, 1985, thirty-seven believers officially became charter members of Lake City Christian Church. In 1986, the church purchased land on Highway 247 for their future home. Groundbreaking ceremonies took place on July 20, 1986. The first building, part of a planned three-stage building program, was dedicated on March 9, 1987. The church continued to grow. In 1989, construction began on an education wing. It was completed just in time for Vacation Bible School. Years later, in 1994, the “Joy Shed” was built, later becoming the Fellowship Hall. This space was eventually remodeled into a two-bedroom apartment called the Hospitality House, providing housing for the church’s youth minister and family. Lake City Christian Church continued its expansion with the construction of an 11,760-square-foot activities building known as Holeton Hall, dedicated in 1998. Missions have always been central to Lake City Christian Church. Initially, they supported Florida Christian College and Good News Productions. Over time, their mission support expanded to include several other organizations. Lake City Christian Church has been served by dedicated ministers, including Larry and Ladessa Holeton, who played a significant role in the church’s growth and development. They were followed by Jake and Kim Richardson, who continued to build upon the church’s foundation.
