The very second oldest community college in Illinois, right here in front of you, is Morton College. You might be surprised to learn that this grand institution opened its doors in 1924. That was back when the area was a booming industrial heart of the nation. But times change, and the college needed a home of its own. After years of waiting, construction on the current building began in 1973. Over the decades, Morton College’s focus expanded to include a wide array of programs, from university transfer courses to job-specific programs. If you look closely, you’ll see a large building with a modern, unassuming design. Inside, you can find a library, computer labs, and even a student success center, all filled with the latest technology. Even though a lot has changed over the years, Morton College’s dedication to the community remains unchanged. It continues to be a welcoming place for new and aspiring students, helping them reach their goals through education.
