“A beacon of faith,” whispered a visitor from Singapore, his eyes wide with awe as he stood before New Life Bible Presbyterian Church. Hidden in plain sight on Salusbury Road, New Life Bible Presbyterian Church might appear unassuming at first glance. But don’t let its exterior fool you. This church is a testament to the enduring power of faith and the unwavering commitment of its congregation. Its story begins not here in London, but across the globe in Singapore. In the late 20th century, a group of Singaporean immigrants, longing for a spiritual home in their adopted city, found themselves increasingly at odds with the liberal leanings of the United Reformed Church of Harlesden. Guided by Reverend Eric Kwan, a pastor visiting from New Life Singapore, they made the courageous decision to break away. And so, in 1993, New Life Bible Presbyterian Church was born. This bold move, however, came at a cost. The congregation found themselves without a permanent home, forced to hold their services in rented spaces across London. From the side rooms of the American Church to the quiet corners of Willesden Green Library Centre, their faith never wavered. Their persistence paid off. In 1996, under the leadership of Dr. Tow Siang Hwa, they secured a 100-year-old church on Salusbury Road, a former URC property that was nearly sold to become a Hindu temple. Their triumph marked a new chapter for New Life Bible Presbyterian Church. The church underwent extensive renovations, a testament to their unwavering dedication. Today, New Life Bible Presbyterian Church stands as a testament to their faith, a beacon for believers in the heart of London. A symbol of resilience and the unwavering spirit of those who dared to build a new life on faith’s strong foundation.
