Son nom fait référence à un moulin disparu. That is the secret of Chemin des Meuniers. We are standing on a path that echoes with the whispers of a time when windmills dotted the Parisian landscape.

Chemin des Meuniers. It is more than just a street name. It is a portal to the past. This path is located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. It offers a glimpse into the city’s bygone era. The street is accessible via the metro line 8. You can get off at the Porte de Charenton station. Tramway line 3a also stops near Porte de Charenton.

Once called Ruelle des Meuniers, it earned its current name by decree. The Chemin des Meuniers stretches for 660 meters. It is a narrow path being only 4 meters wide. Its existence predates 1728. The path is featured on Jean Delagrive’s Paris map from that year. It also appears on Roussel’s 1730 map of the former Bercy commune.

Imagine the clatter of millstones. Picture the miller’s strong hands guiding the grain. The Chemin des Meuniers once led to a bustling mill. It was a vital part of the community. Now, only the name remains as a reminder of this important piece of history.

At number 2 Chemin des Meuniers, a porch leads to private courtyards. These include the Square du Massif-Central, the Square de la Vendée and the Square du Sancerrois. A pedestrian bridge spans the Petite Ceinture line. It connects the Boulevard Poniatowski and Rue du Général-Michel-Bizot sections. Stairs at both ends of the bridge provide access.

The French chemist Augustin-Pierre Dubrunfaut lived at number 65. He tragically died there in 1881 due to accidental asphyxiation.

As we walk along the Chemin des Meuniers, let us remember the echoes of the past. Let us remember the miller and his mill. They once stood here. They helped to shape the landscape of Paris. The Chemin des Meuniers stands as a quiet testament to Parisian history. It connects us to the city’s rich heritage. It is a journey through time.
