One of ISTANBUL’74’s most notable initiatives is the ISTANBUL INTERNATIONAL ARTS & CULTURE FESTIVAL. It is locally referred to as Istancool. Officially, it is abbreviated as IST. Festival. Since 2009, the festival has attracted notable figures. Gore Vidal, Zaha Hadid, and Tilda Swinton attended. Harvey Keitel, Terry Gilliam, and JR also participated. Sophie Calle, Michael Stipe, and Anton Corbijn were present. Hussein Chalayan, Peter Beard, Franca Sozzani, Stephen Frears, and Ryan McGinley participated as well.
