Baoshan Temple, also known as Baoshan Jing Temple, is located in Luodian. It sits on the banks of the Lianqi River in Baoshan District. This “Treasure Mountain Serene Temple” is a place of peace.
Let’s journey back to the Ming Dynasty. The Zhengde Emperor’s reign saw the temple’s first construction. Later, during the Qing Dynasty, the Qianlong Emperor ordered a restoration. In 2005, further construction and renovation took place.
Notice the temple’s layout. As of 2020, it occupies 20 acres. This makes it Shanghai’s largest Buddhist temple. The Mahavira Hall and the Hall of the Four Heavenly Kings remain from the Ming Dynasty. After 2005, new structures followed a traditional layout. Buildings were built in the late Tang Dynasty style.
Look around. The Shanmen marks the entrance. Beyond it lies the Mahavira Hall and the Hall of the Four Heavenly Kings. Observe the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower. The Buddhist Texts Library, the Hall of the Guanyin, and the Hall of Bhaisajyaguru follow. The Hall of Sangharama Palace and the Dharma Hall complete the ensemble.
