Seeking guidance and resolution? The Muslim Law (Shariah) Council UK stands as a beacon of support for the Muslim community. Established in October 1985, the Muslim Law (Shariah) Council UK emerged from a pivotal conference. Over 250 Imams, Muslim scholars, and representatives from mosques and Muslim organizations gathered. Their aim was to create a body dedicated to resolving disputes and addressing issues faced by Muslims in the UK. The Muslim Law (Shariah) Council UK offers a range of vital services. These include Nikah (marriage) services, providing guidance on this sacred bond in Islam. The Council also offers Talaq (divorce) services. They emphasize the seriousness of divorce. They encourage reconciliation and mediation before considering it as a last resort. Mediation services are also offered, helping couples find solutions to marital problems through trained and experienced mediators. Additionally, the Council provides Khula services, where a woman initiates divorce proceedings for valid reasons, such as mistreatment or lack of maintenance from her husband. The Muslim Law (Shariah) Council UK understands that divorce is a sensitive matter. They approach these cases with empathy, supporting individuals through challenging times. They also offer support beyond marriage and divorce, addressing a wider range of social and family issues within the Muslim community. Unfortunately, there are illegitimate ‘shariah councils’ that exploit vulnerable individuals. Some falsely claim affiliation with the Muslim Law (Shariah) Council UK. It’s crucial to verify the legitimacy of any such council. The Muslim Law (Shariah) Council UK promotes transparency and accountability. They advise checking for a valid office address and verifying the credentials of the scholars involved. Sadly, the Muslim Law (Shariah) Council UK mourned the loss of their esteemed Executive Secretary, Maulana Shahid Raza OBE, in 2022. He served the Council for over three decades, providing compassionate support to countless individuals facing marital disputes and divorce. His dedication and sensitive approach will be remembered.
