“Three brothers” That’s what the name means. Avenue des Trois Frères in Paris. A simple name yet it hides layers of history. Right here before us lies a street steeped in the lives of Parisian artists. It wasn’t always Avenue des Trois Frères.

Before 1797 it was two streets. Rue des Trois-Frères and Rue Léonie. The first named after the Dufour brothers. They owned the land. The second street named after the wife of another landowner. In 1868 they merged. The Avenue we see today was born.

This Avenue has a unique charm. It’s more than just a thoroughfare. It’s a canvas upon which the lives of notable figures were painted. At number 2 Jean-Baptiste Lavastre had his workshop in 1871. He was a painter and decorator. Aron Skrobek a syndicalist and leader of immigrant workers lived clandestinely at number 4. A plaque remembers him. Number 5 witnessed a birth. Charles Antoine Deshayes son of a painter was born there in 1797. Achille Jean-Baptiste Leboucher a painter resided at number 21 in 1837.

Number 23 holds a special place in history. Georges Clemenceau the famous politician and mayor of the 18th arrondissement had a dispensary here. He practiced medicine alongside his political career until 1906. At number 39 Tremplin Théâtre a vibrant theater brings performances to life.

The Avenue also graced the silver screen. Number 56 at the corner of Rue Androuet you’ll find the épicerie Au marché de la Butte. This little shop played a starring role in the beloved film Amélie Poulain. These are just glimpses into the rich tapestry of life woven into the fabric of Avenue des Trois Frères. This is more than a street. It’s a living storybook. Each building each stone whispers tales of artists. revolutionaries. and everyday Parisians. It is a journey through time.

The Avenue’s past merges with the present. It’s a charming reminder that the heart of Paris beats not just in grand boulevards but also in quiet streets like this one. It’s a reminder that even unassuming streets like Avenue des Trois Frères can hold profound stories. Stories waiting to be discovered.
