Centuries old yet newly built. That’s the Chai Chee United Temple’s unique story.
Picture this temple. It stands proudly at 6 Chai Chee Lane. It’s a testament to faith perseverance and community. The Chai Chee United Temple wasn’t always here. In fact it’s a merger of three older temples. Hock San Teng Temple Zhu Yun Gong Temple and Hock Leng Keng Temple. These temples faced land acquisition issues. They needed to unite to secure a new location.
The government’s land acquisition presented a challenge. The three temples had to combine. They formed a legal entity. Only then could they receive land for a new temple. This resulted in the Chai Chee United Temple. Its formation involved negotiations. Representatives from each temple participated in extensive discussions. They ultimately agreed to share a new site. The agreement was formalized. Three individuals signed the crucial document. This marked the beginning of the Chai Chee United Temple.
The construction began in 1994. It concluded in February 1995. Devotees eagerly awaited the completion. They generously contributed funds. Their donations made the project possible. The new temple’s design incorporated traditional Chinese architectural elements. Two vibrant dragons adorn the rooftop. These dragons symbolize auspiciousness and fire protection. The intricate carvings add to the building’s beauty.
The Chai Chee United Temple opened its doors. The deities of the three original temples were moved. Each deity had a specific date for its enthronement. Hock San Teng Temple’s Dabogong God took his place on March 2nd 1995. Zhu Yun Gong Temple’s Monkey God followed on May 5th 1995. Finally Hock Leng Keng Temple’s Heavenly Emperor was enshrined on June 18th 1995.
Today the Chai Chee United Temple thrives. It serves as a spiritual center. It also provides a community gathering place. The temple stands as a symbol of unity.
