Established in 1899 Istanbul Anadolu Lisesi boasts a rich history. Initially known as Hamidiye Erkek Ortaokulu it opened its doors to students. A second building was added in 1901 housing Hamidiye Kız Ortaokulu. The school’s name changed many times reflecting the shifting political landscape. It became Numune Ortaokulu then moved to Yeldeğirmeni during World War I. After the war it was renamed Kadıköy Numune Ortaokulu.
Later it briefly became a Sultaniye school a prestigious institution of the Ottoman era. A new building funded by Süreyya Paşa expanded the school in 1923. With the establishment of the Republic of Turkey it transitioned to a high school becoming Kadıköy Lisesi.
In 1982 a significant addition including a gymnasium and sports field was built. The school’s name shifted again to Kenan Evren Lisesi then Kenan Evren Anadolu Lisesi. Finally in 2010 it adopted its current name Istanbul Anadolu Lisesi.
Throughout its history Istanbul Anadolu Lisesi has been a center of education. It has successfully prepared generations of students for higher education.
