What if a school could boast a Grammy, a world-renowned debate team, and an Olympic medalist among its alumni? Glenbrook South High School, right here in Glenview, can. GBS isn’t just a high school. It’s a launchpad for incredible talent, a testament to academic rigor, and a vibrant community that fosters success in all its forms. Established in 1962 to alleviate overcrowding at Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South quickly forged its own identity. Glenbrook South has always adapted to the needs of its students. A major expansion in 2002 added classrooms, revamped arts facilities, and reconfigured the campus. Further renovations continued over the years, including updated science labs, a new food court, a state-of-the-art pool, and even all-gender bathrooms added in the 2024-2025 school year. These improvements reflect Glenbrook South’s commitment to providing a modern and inclusive learning environment. Academically, Glenbrook South consistently performs above the state median. The school offers a diverse range of courses, including 24 Advanced Placement options. Beyond the traditional subjects, Glenbrook South boasts a thriving arts scene. The school was named a National GRAMMY Signature School in 2008. Its debate team has won multiple national championships. The school’s newspaper, the Oracle, and yearbook, the Etruscan, regularly receive national recognition. Glenbrook South’s athletic program is just as impressive. The girls’ basketball team won the state championship in 1993-94. The boys’ volleyball team clinched the title in 2002-03. The boys’ golf team took home the trophy in 1967-68. Even more impressive, the boys’ lacrosse team won the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association championship in 1999-2000. Glenbrook South’s alumni network reads like a who’s who of accomplished individuals. From Emmy Award-winning producer Steven Levitan (creator of “Modern Family”) to Fall Out Boy’s lead singer Patrick Stump, GBS graduates have made their mark in entertainment, business, and beyond. Olympic bronze medalist Lana Gehring and NBA player Jack Cooley also walked these halls, demonstrating the breadth of talent nurtured within Glenbrook South’s walls. Glenbrook South High School isn’t just a place of learning. It’s a place where students discover their passions, develop their skills, and prepare for a future filled with endless possibilities. It’s a place where titans are made.
