Dream yourself back to the 18th century. We are standing before Schloss Wahren. This manor house whispers tales of noble families and changing times.
Schloss Wahren’s story begins much earlier though. The von Wahren family was mentioned as early as 1185. Heinrich von Wahren is noted as the owner.
Around 1480, the Planck family, specifically Georg Blanck, took over the estate. His widow sold it to the Leipzig City Council in 1592. About a century later, in 1650, Johann Heinrich von Stammer acquired the estate. This included the village of Wahren and Stahmeln.
The manor house you see was built between 1749 and 1750. It was constructed in the Baroque style. It stands at Rittergutsstrasse 23 today.
The von Stammer family owned the estate until the early 20th century. In 1898, Theodor Kniesche built his fur processing business nearby. Richard Lindner bought the property around 1916. He converted the manor house into an apartment building.
Even during DDR times, Schloss Wahren received attention. It was restored between 1983 and 1988. A comprehensive renovation took place after the German reunification. This happened in 1999 and 2000. Exclusive apartments were created.
Schloss Wahren has served residential purposes ever since. It stands as a testament to the area’s rich history. It connects us to centuries of owners and events. From noble families to modern residents, Schloss Wahren has seen it all. It continues to be a landmark. This is a reminder of Leipzig’s past.
