What if I told you that the Pusat Pendidikan Lalu Lintas wasn’t always in Tangerang Selatan? This institution, dedicated to training Indonesia’s traffic police, has a fascinating history of moving around. Right here, where you stand today, might have been nothing more than a bustling Jakarta street years ago. The Pusat Pendidikan Lalu Lintas, often abbreviated to Pusdiklantas, began its journey in the heart of Jakarta, on Jalan M.T. Haryono, in 1969. Can you imagine the contrast? From the busy streets of Jakarta to its current location in Serpong, the Pusdiklantas has seen a lot of changes. Initially, traffic police training wasn’t formalized. Officers were trained both domestically, in Sukabumi, and internationally, in the USA and Germany. But by 1970, the need for a dedicated training center became clear. The Pusdiklantas was formally established. Its initial administrative oversight fell under the Directorate of Traffic of the Samapta Command. Its technical operations were managed by the Police Education and Training Development. This marked a crucial step in professionalizing traffic management in Indonesia. The Pusdiklantas’s location changed several times. Before 1969, training took place at the SPN Sukabumi and Dodiklat Ciputat. Then it moved to Jalan M.T. Haryono. From 1986 to 1991, operations shifted to Jalan Bhayangkara Raya in Serpong, while administration remained in Jakarta. Finally, in 1991, the Pusdiklantas fully settled in its current location in Serpong, Tangerang Selatan. The Pusdiklantas has played a vital role in shaping Indonesia’s traffic management. It’s from here that officers learn the skills and knowledge to keep our roads safe and flowing smoothly. So the next time you see a traffic officer, remember the journey of the Pusdiklantas. It’s a story of evolution, dedication, and the constant pursuit of better traffic management for Indonesia.
