Established in 1983, L’Agence du Court Métrage sits before you, a champion of short films. It was born from a collective desire to promote and develop the distribution of short films, across all screens and for all audiences. L’Agence du Court Métrage isn’t just a building. It’s a dynamic hub connecting filmmakers, production companies, distributors, festivals, and film lovers.
L’Agence du Court Métrage plays multiple roles in the world of short film. It acts as a distributor, advising and guiding programmers in their short film projects. This includes everything from pre-show screenings to curated programs, thematic selections, and tailored film series. They collaborate with cinemas, festivals, media libraries, television channels, and online platforms, both in France and internationally. Their extensive catalog boasts over 15,000 films, a testament to their dedication to the art form.
L’Agence du Court Métrage also serves as a film archive. This “Cinémathèque du court métrage” preserves films in both film and digital formats, deposited by producers and directors. They’ve even implemented a digitization policy, supported by the CNC (National Center for Cinema and the Moving Image) since 2012, and using their own digitization equipment acquired in 2018. They are safeguarding the legacy of short film for future generations.
Beyond distribution and preservation, L’Agence du Court Métrage is deeply invested in film education. They see themselves as a space for reflection, exchange, and resources, aiming to raise awareness of cinema, particularly the short film format. This is achieved through educational initiatives like school programs, workshops, training sessions, and online platforms like “Le Kinétoscope”. They even publish “Bref,” an annual publication and a video-on-demand platform dedicated to short films: Brefcinema.
Finally, L’Agence du Court Métrage actively supports film professionals by offering a range of tools and services. They provide programming advice, online access to films for distributors, centralized rights management, and revenue sharing for directors and producers. They also facilitate film festival registrations through FilmFest and provide a venue for screenings: the Jacques-Tati room. L’Agence du Court Métrage is not merely an agency, but a vital force in the world of short film, ensuring its continued growth and appreciation.
