Time to delve into the history of Saint Mary’s Cemetery. Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum is a place of rest. It is located in Evergreen Park Illinois. This cemetery serves the southern area of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Saint Mary’s Cemetery was consecrated in 1888. It was the second cemetery established by the German Angel Guardian Orphanage Society. The cemetery is also known as Saint Marias Cemetery.
Saint Mary Cemetery is the largest of its kind. It serves the southern area of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Saint Mary’s Cemetery is well maintained. It is adjacent to Evergreen Cemetery on the west side.
In 1967 a tornado swept through Saint Mary Cemetery. Many trees were lost in the storm.
In 1969 the Interment Chapel was built. It was the first open-style chapel. The chapel features extensive use of faceted glass.
Saint Mary’s Cemetery also has Garden Crypt facilities. The newest opened in 1981.
Office hours for Saint Mary’s Cemetery are limited. They are 8:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. Saturday hours are 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
