The Archicofradía del Santísimo Sacramento, based in the Metropolitan Cathedral, oversaw the college. A widow named Inés Álvarez guided the girls, educating them in the Catholic faith. Interestingly, no nuns ran the school; mature married or single women offered their experience instead. The college expanded over time, acquiring several buildings and nearly occupying the entire block. It boasted kitchens, an infirmary, dormitories, a library, orchards, and other facilities. A simple private chapel eventually gave way to a larger temple, later open to the public. The 16th and 17th centuries saw the college rebuilt after disasters struck Mexico City.
