Julia Zotter and her Shanghainese partner Amy Fang established the theatre in 2014. It occupies 2,400 square meters within a heritage textile factory. The factory is located on the Huangpu River’s bank promenade. Today, Julia is mainly in Austria. Amy Fang manages the business in China.
The theatre officially opened on May 31, 2014, with the Chinese government. The grand opening featured a traditional lion dance and many flower wreaths.
Inside Zotter Chocolate Theatre, discover a Viennese coffee house. Enjoy bundt cake, Zotter coffee and drinking chocolate. The theatre employs 20 people. The mixing bar station is a favorite. Visitors create their own chocolate bars.
The theatre makes chocolates for tasting stations. It also makes special editions for company gifts. Bundt cakes and tarts are baked for the coffee house. Zotter aims to inspire Shanghai’s 23 million residents with organic and fair-trade chocolates.
