Did the name Rosa Will ever grace your ears? A devout Catholic and talented organist, Rosa’s story is intertwined with the very foundations of St. Andreas in Kassel. In the bustling post-war era, Kassel witnessed an influx of refugees, swelling the ranks of the St. Kunigundis parish. The sheer distance parishioners traveled for mass became a concern. During a 1963 visit, Bishop Dr. Adolf Bolte discussed this challenge with Pater Borg. The seed for a new church was planted. St. Andreas emerged from a need, a vision for a community united in faith. Pater Borg tirelessly searched, finally securing a plot on Ochshäuser Straße. The wheels began to turn. On January 1, 1970, a new chapter unfolded. Bettenhausen, Forstfeld, Waldau, and Bergshausen were separated from St. Kunigundis. They formed the Pfarrkuratie, the precursor to the parish of St. Andreas. Pater Wilhelm Görtz, a chaplain from St. Kunigundis, was tasked with this momentous undertaking. A church council was elected in May 1970. Among them were Johannes Dreßler, Hans Engels, Andreas Eng, and Rosa Will. Rosa not only served on the council but also lent her musical gifts as the organist at the parish center until her passing in 1979. St. Andreas stands as a testament to the dedication of these individuals, a beacon of faith built by the community, for the community. The spirit of Rosa Will, the dedicated organist, continues to resonate within these walls.
