“Lost in prayer, a young boy seeks solace.” Masjid Al Zikra stands as a beacon of faith in Jakarta. It is a place where whispers of devotion intertwine with the rhythm of the city. Masjid Al Zikra isn’t just a mosque; it’s a testament to the vision of Ustadz Muhammad Arifin Ilham. He spearheaded the creation of this spiritual haven within the Bukit Az-Zikra housing complex. The mosque’s journey began in 2007. Construction concluded in February 2009, revealing a magnificent structure capable of holding an astounding 22,000 worshippers. The mosque’s construction was a global effort. The World Islamic Call Society (WICS), based in Tripoli, Libya, fully funded the project, investing a substantial Rp 36.9 billion in the first phase alone. A further Rp 23 billion was allocated for additional features like parks, parking, and Islamic boarding schools. Masjid Al Zikra’s grandeur extends beyond its walls. A unique feature is its umbrella, reminiscent of those at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. This umbrella provides additional space for worshippers during large gatherings. Masjid Al Zikra’s two-story structure stands as a symbol of community and devotion, its ceramic floors and tiled roof a testament to its thoughtful design. Its brick walls, sturdy and strong, enclose a space where up to 250 individuals can gather for prayer. The mosque serves not only as a place of worship but also as an evacuation center, equipped with toilets and a reliable water supply. Inside, the mosque’s capacity to accommodate between 100 to 250 people creates an intimate atmosphere for prayer and reflection. Masjid Al Zikra’s story is one of vision, community, and global collaboration. It is a place where faith finds a home, where prayers ascend, and where the spirit of togetherness thrives.
