The proposed sanctuary stands just a half-kilometer west of the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Before its current state and intended purpose, this site held a different kind of magic. It was once the Cine Lindavista, a movie theater designed by architect Charles Lee. Lee, known for his spectacular cinema designs in and around Hollywood during the Golden Age of Cinema, brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to this Mexico City neighborhood in 1942. Imagine the bustling crowds, the smell of popcorn, the anticipation of the latest film flickering to life on the big screen. The theater’s circular ticket booths, topped with red and yellow mosaic domes, still stand, a nostalgic reminder of its vibrant past. The original façade remains, now sheltering the main nave of the intended temple. In 2002, Pope John Paul II blessed the site, marking its transition from a place of entertainment to a place of worship. However, the transformation remains incomplete.
