Perhaps you’ve walked by without noticing. Rue Galland is more than just a street. It is a testament to Lyon’s evolving story.

Rue Galland sits in Lyon’s 7th arrondissement. It stretches in a straight line. The street begins at Rue des Verriers. It ends at Rue de la Grande Famille. Pedestrians can continue west via Rue Caton.

Rue Galland’s north side presents a striking visual. It begins with an overhanging angle above Rue des Verriers. It continues as a long bar of black and white. Two porches punctuate this facade. Bouquets of flowers adorn their walls. Unusual chandeliers hang within them. After Rue des Bons Enfants, a smaller, similar building appears. An single-story warehouse follows.

The south side of Rue Galland offers more variety. Two older houses jut out. Two buildings each have a recessed slot between wings. These frame a warehouse. A vacant lot sits at the corner of Rue des Bons Enfants. The last building extends in three concrete faces. These continue onto Rue de la Grande Famille and Rue Lortet. Buttresses mark each facade around each entrance.

Rue Galland owes its name to a property owner. Galland owned all the land on the street’s south side. This land stretched to Rue Lortet. The street sometimes appears as “Rue Galand”. A building at 3 Rue Ney bears the inscription “P Galland 1932”.

Rue Galland emerged before the late 19th century. The street’s transformation concluded. Electrical pylons were still temporary then. Only two houses and two warehouses would remain. They bear witness to its earlier form. An entrepôt on the south side was demolished in 2019. Other construction is now complete.

In 2019, Secours Populaire replaced a business here. You’ll find the Secours Populaire Fédération Boutique de la Solidarité at 21 Rue Galland. The organisation offers social support and solidarity.

Rue Galland is home to various activities. These include school support. There are also literacy programs. You can contact them at 04 72 77 87 77.

Rue Galland is a blend of old and new. It tells a silent story of Lyon’s past. The street has adapted to the city’s changing needs. The buildings whisper tales of commerce and community. So next time you stroll down Rue Galland, remember its history.
