Shanghai Xingzhi High School stands proudly. Its history whispers tales of resilience and dedication. Founded in March 1939 by renowned educator Xing Zhi this school wasn’t born in Shanghai. It began in Chongqing a city far from the coastal bustle. The school’s initial location was in Beiwenxi. Its founding faced immense challenges. Funding was scarce. Finding suitable premises was difficult. Xing Zhi and his supporters persevered. They secured support from prominent figures. They even sought out orphaned children. These children were among the school’s first students. The school opened its doors on July 20 1939. Seventy-one students attended that first day. Many more students followed.

The school’s curriculum was unique. It balanced traditional subjects with specialized courses. Music drama arts and even social sciences were emphasized. Xing Zhi believed in holistic education. He believed a student’s well-being was important. He stressed physical and mental health. His famous “Four Daily Questions” challenged students to reflect. The questions focused on progress in body mind work and morality. He pushed students for self-improvement. This philosophy has shaped the school’s identity for decades.

The school moved to Shanghai in 1947. The transition wasn’t smooth. The school faced several relocation challenges. Its location moved multiple times. In 1953 it was reorganized. It became Shanghai Municipal Xingzhi Arts School. It later became a fully comprehensive secondary school. This continued until the Cultural Revolution. The school was affected by political turmoil. Its name was even changed. It was eventually restored to Shanghai Xingzhi Middle School.

Today Shanghai Xingzhi Middle School is a leading institution. It is known for its academic excellence. It is also renowned for its commitment to well-rounded education. Its motto “Truth in Teaching Truth in Learning Truth in Action” reflects its legacy. The school’s beautiful campus includes a library. The campus boasts extensive athletic facilities. A museum commemorates the school’s history and legacy. It features items from Xing Zhi’s life and career. The legacy of Xing Zhi remains a strong influence. It shapes the school’s cultural landscape. The school’s continued success is a testament to its founder. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of its students and teachers. It is a place where young minds are shaped and nurtured. This is Shanghai Xingzhi Middle School. Its story continues.
