Troncos del Talar wasn’t always the bustling town it is today. It began as part of the vast El Talar estate owned by the General Angel Pacheco. He received these lands as a reward for his service under Juan Manuel de Rosas. Pacheco’s son built a magnificent “Castillo” on the estate. Access was by boat via the Zanjón de Pacheco a canal connecting the Rio de las Conchas to the estate. Or one could use a toll bridge. The area east of the Buenos Aires and Campana railway line became known as Troncos del Talar a place for gathering tala wood.
The true birth of Troncos del Talar began in 1949. The Legarreta Tomas Serra y Cia SRL company started selling plots of land. This sparked a wave of development. Soon the Ruta 197 was paved. Clubs community centers schools and chapels sprang up. The town flourished.
The 1960s saw the construction of the Rio de la Reconquista flood relief channel also known as the National Rowing Track. The Tigre Industrial Park emerged. A new bridge over the Reconquista River and Avenida Larralde improved access to the Acceso Norte highway.
This growth led to the separation of Troncos del Talar from General Pacheco. It became its own municipality. New services arrived including a fire station an emergency medical service and a sports complex. More gated communities developed necessitating the construction of the Camino Bancalari-Benavidez road. A library police station health center and ophthalmological hospital followed. Even the Tigre Municipal Operations Center now calls Troncos del Talar home.
In 2010 Troncos del Talar officially received its own coat of arms. This emblem features four symbols representing significant aspects of the town’s history. A Sacred Heart of Jesus statue marks the entrance. The first school a small three-room building stands as a reminder of the town’s humble beginnings. The Puente Taurita a sturdy iron bridge first built in 1885 though replaced a few times still connects the community. And the old water tank the sole water source for the earliest settlers a tangible link to the past.
