In 1957, Virum Gymnasium first opened its doors as Virum Statsskole. Now, imagine standing before this vibrant hub of learning. Virum Gymnasium isn’t just about academics. It’s about fostering “Vision and Values,” pushing students to reach their full potential academically, personally, and socially. The school challenges students to think critically about society and science. It encourages them to become responsible citizens in a democracy, mindful of the world around them. Virum Gymnasium goes beyond classroom learning. The school invites guest speakers and organizes trips. This allows students to connect with others and experience different learning environments. They also focus on digital literacy, teaching students to navigate the online world ethically and critically. The school underwent a reform in August 2017. This aimed to raise academic standards and offer more individualized class combinations. Through these changes, Virum Gymnasium continues to provide a valuable education led by dedicated teachers. The gymnasium is located at Fuglsangvej 66 in Virum. Mette Kynemund has served as the headmaster since 2013. Did you know that the renowned Danish author Ole Hyltoft was once a teacher here? Virum Gymnasium also has a unique connection to the world of sports. In the same year the school opened, Virum Basketball Klub was founded, originally known as Virum Statsskoles Basketball Klub. Today, Virum Gymnasium boasts 13 learning tracks, over 1,000 students, and a diverse staff. It offers a wide range of study programs in science, social sciences, languages, and music, including a specialized TD program. The campus itself, designed by Danish architect Thomas Havning, was expanded and renovated in 2011. Virum Gymnasium remains a testament to its motto, “knowledge and joy.”
