Was it fate that brought you here to the Norwood Park Metra Station? Or simply the convenience of the Union Pacific Northwest Line? Either way prepare to step back in time at this historic station.

The Norwood Park station is more than just a place to catch a train. It is a landmark with a story etched into its very structure. Officially located on 6088 North Northwest Highway the station also runs parallel to Avondale Avenue near Raven Street.

Built in 1907 as the Chicago and North Western Railroad Depot the station exudes old-world charm. Imagine travelers arriving here over a century ago. They were eager to explore Chicago or perhaps returning home to Norwood Park.

Notice the architecture of the Norwood Park Metra Station. It resembles a private residence rather than a typical train station. This unique design adds to its appeal. It is privately owned which explains why it opens early at 5:00 A.M.

The Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce & Industry recognized its importance. They undertook a major renovation project in 1999 breathing new life into the station. In 2001 the Norwood Park Metra Station earned a well-deserved place on the National Register of Historic Places.

Consider its role in connecting Norwood Park to the rest of Chicago. Despite its distance from downtown a train ride to the Ogilvie Transportation Center takes only 20 minutes. This accessibility made Norwood Park an attractive place to live. People could escape the city’s hustle and bustle while still enjoying easy access to its amenities.

Today the Norwood Park Metra Station continues to serve the community. As of 2018 it was the 131st busiest of Metra’s non-downtown stations. An average of 365 weekday boardings demonstrates its importance to local commuters.

As of May 30 2023 the station sees frequent service. Fifty trains stop here on weekdays. Thirty-one trains serve the station on Saturdays and nineteen on Sundays.

Zone 2 is the fare zone for Norwood Park. There is no ticket vending machine here. Instead passengers can purchase tickets on board or via the Ventra app.

If you need assistance the lost and found is located at Ogilvie. The waiting room opens at 5 A.M. Its closing time varies because the station is privately owned.

Buses connect to the station using CTA Route 68. Parking is available with 100 daily spaces.

So as you board your train at the Norwood Park Metra Station remember its rich history. It is a testament to the enduring appeal of this Far Northwest Side neighborhood. A neighborhood where everything old is old again.
