Ever wondered about a mosque named for unwavering faith? Welcome to the Al Istiqamah Mosque. Its name Al-Istiqamah means The Constant a fitting title for this remarkable place of worship. Located in Serangoon Singapore the Al Istiqamah Mosque stands as a testament to community spirit and dedication.

Built under the Mosque Building & Mendaki Fund scheme this mosque has a fascinating history. Its construction began in September 1997 a testament to the years of planning and fundraising that preceded it. The initial fundraising goal was a significant S$700000 for the basic building requirements. So few volunteers initially came forward that the Mosque Building Committee had to place an advertisement in the Berita Harian newspaper.

Imagine the challenges. Securing land then funding for a new mosque. The Al Istiqamah Mosque is unique. It’s the only mosque in Singapore to have received land allocation before its building committee was even appointed. The fundraising was competitive. Other mosques in neighboring areas were also undergoing renovations or expansions. The Al Istiqamah Mosque Building Committee had to stand out to succeed.

The final cost of this beautiful structure was around $7 million. It opened officially on June 11 1999. Its opening ceremony on June 17 2000 was attended by Mohamad Maidin Packer Mohd Member of Parliament. This three-story mosque boasts a stunning architectural style. It masterfully blends Nusantara Middle Eastern and Mauritian design elements. The mosque has a capacity for 3300 worshippers a significant number that reflects the community it serves.

Designed by James Yip and Partners this marvel of architectural ingenuity offers flexible space. The building is divided into two areas. An i’tikaf section for prayer and a multipurpose area for community events. The i’tikaf area alone accommodates hundreds of worshippers across its three levels. This demonstrates a thoughtful design prioritizing both individual and communal worship.

Today the Al Istiqamah Mosque continues to serve its community. It remains a central hub for worship and social activities. It is currently undergoing renovations to upgrade its facilities ensuring its continued service for years to come. This mosque is more than just a building. It is a beacon of faith resilience and community. A testament to the unwavering spirit of its people. A place where the constant pursuit of faith finds its home. Remember its name Al Istiqamah The Constant.
