How did a small town in Argentina become Hudson? This unassuming town in Berazategui Partido is named after William Henry Hudson. He was a famous Anglo-Argentine writer and naturalist. Hudson’s name in Spanish is Guillermo Enrique Hudson. The town boasts road and rail links to Buenos Aires and La Plata. It’s a semi-rural area part of Greater Buenos Aires’ southern zone.

Imagine the pampas the vast grasslands of Hudson’s youth. He roamed free collecting bird specimens for the Smithsonian Institution. Two Patagonian birds Knipolegus hudsoni and Asthenes hudsoni bear his name. His evocative descriptions of Patagonia made him famous. His most celebrated work Green Mansions a romance set in the Venezuelan rainforest even inspired a Hollywood film.

Sadly a tragic event marked Hudson’s history. In 2000 a car accident near a toll booth on the Hudson stretch of the Buenos Aires-La Plata toll road killed the famous singer Rodrigo. This accident sadly became infamous. It cast a shadow over Hudson. People remember it even today.

But the town also boasts a rich history beyond tragedy. The old Hudson malt house stands as a testament to bygone times. It’s a reminder of the town’s evolution. Its past and present blend seamlessly.

Today Hudson thrives. A vibrant community it is a place where the quiet charm of the countryside merges with the energy of a growing suburb. It is a fitting tribute to the man whose name it bears. A legacy of literature nature and unexpected tragedy intertwine within the vibrant landscape of Hudson. A place where the echoes of the pampas whisper tales of a celebrated naturalist. It also speaks of a town forever linked to a tragic accident.
