“Ready to step into a realm where Mexican art finds its sanctuary?

Welcome to Museo Kaluz. This museum is one of Mexico City’s newest cultural gems. It resides in a beautifully restored historical building. This building dates back to the 18th century. It was once the Hospedería de Santo Tomás de Villanueva. This building offered shelter to Spanish friars on their way to evangelize the East.

Later, the building became the Hotel de Cortés. In 2020, it reopened as the Museo Kaluz. The Museo Kaluz houses the Kaluz Collection. Don Antonio del Valle Ruiz assembled it. He aimed to preserve Mexico’s artistic heritage. The collection features landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes. These artworks span from the 18th to the 21st centuries.

The Museo Kaluz collection boasts over 1000 pieces. You will find works by Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco here. Ángel Zárraga and Gerardo Murillo are also represented. Do not forget Rufino Tamayo and many other internationally recognized artists.

The Museo Kaluz focuses on Spanish artists exiled in Mexico. These artists sought refuge during the Spanish Civil War. The collection includes works by Antonio Rodríguez Luna and Arturo Souto. These masters arrived in Mexico after the war.

The building itself is a masterpiece. Its façade showcases chiluca and tezontle volcanic rocks. These were commonly used in viceregal architecture. Vicente Rojo’s Urban Garden mural adorns the exterior. It provides a modern contrast to the historic architecture. The mural is made of ten vertical panels. It creates a dialogue with the colonial facade.

Before becoming a museum, the building had a unique chapter. Legend says that Germán Valdés, also known as Tin Tan, was born within its walls. He was a legendary Mexican comedian.

Step inside Museo Kaluz. Explore its exhibition halls. Discover the urban observatory on the terrace. Enjoy the café and restaurant. The Museo Kaluz offers guided tours. It also has a shop, a library, and meeting rooms.

The Museo Kaluz is more than a museum. It symbolizes a family’s commitment to protecting cultural values. It contributes to the restoration of historic buildings. It regenerates the environment. It explores Mexican traditions.

The Museo Kaluz invites you to appreciate Mexican art. It seeks to inspire a better human spirit. It wants you to leave with an exalted soul. It stands as a testament to Mexico’s rich artistic heritage. It welcomes you to discover its treasures.”
