Later, the building served as an officers’ mess. It then returned to the Ministry of Culture and the national museum of Versailles. After a five-year restoration, the H\u00f4tel du Grand Contr\u00f4le reopened as a five-star hotel in June 2021.
The H\u00f4tel du Grand Contr\u00f4le includes the Grand Contr\u00f4le and Petit Contr\u00f4le buildings. The 14 rooms and suites are named after figures associated with the Grand Contr\u00f4le. Conservators created a list of furniture. They searched for over 900 pieces from France, Belgium, and Germany. Tapestries, furniture, and pastel colors recreate the 18th-century style. Wall hangings were recreated by Maison Pierre Frey. They used original designs from the ch\u00e2teau archives.
