Fountain Sarmiento, located in Buenos Aires, isn’t just a splash of water in a bustling city. It’s a tribute to Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, a champion of education. Rodin, the sculptor, envisioned more than just a statue. He designed a symbolic base for fountain Sarmiento. This pedestal depicts Apollo, the god of light and knowledge, conquering the Python. This symbolizes Sarmiento’s own fight against ignorance and illiteracy. Rodin had actually used a similar approach in his Monument to Claude Lorraine.
