This grand edifice wasn’t always the home of the Supreme Court. For over a decade, from 1994 to 2008, Theemuge served as the presidential palace, a symbol of power and prestige. It was during the presidency of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom that Theemuge was elevated to presidential standards, a costly endeavor that set the government back a staggering $17 million. Theemuge, however, wasn’t just a stage for political affairs. During festive occasions like Eid, Theemuge would open its doors to the public, allowing them a glimpse into the world of their leader.
