Lippo Plaza Kramatjati first opened its doors in 1988 as Kramat Jati Indah Plaza. Imagine a time before the sleek modern facade, when the walls were adorned with vibrant red and blue stripes, advertising the earliest tenants. In those early days, Matahari Department Store anchored the mall, opening on April 22, 1988. Alongside it, Church’s Texas Chicken, Toko Gunung Agung, and Mitra Bookstore offered their wares. A cinema, Kramat Jati Theatre, provided entertainment, later transforming into a play area and management office. Tragedy struck in 2005 when a fire ravaged the former cinema and children’s area. This event became a catalyst for the first major renovation of Lippo Plaza Kramatjati. Details of the late 2000s are shrouded in mystery. Information about Lippo Plaza Kramatjati during this period is scarce. However, satellite imagery reveals renovations were underway by 2009. Carrefour joined the mall’s ranks in 2006, becoming a significant anchor tenant. Around 2009-2010, Lippo Plaza Kramatjati became part of the Lippo Group. A second wave of transformation began around 2011, drastically altering the mall’s interior and exterior. This expansion effectively doubled Lippo Plaza Kramatjati’s size. The reborn mall, now officially Lippo Plaza Kramat Jati, emerged in 2013. Familiar names like Matahari and Carrefour remained. A new four-screen Cinema XXI opened its doors in May 2013, adding to the mall’s entertainment offerings. Today, Lippo Plaza Kramatjati continues to evolve. Transmart, the successor to Carrefour, stands alongside Matahari as a key anchor. Electronic City, ACE Hardware, familiar fast-food chains, Selma furniture store, and Bata shoes add to the mix, offering a wide array of shopping experiences. From its humble beginnings as Kramat Jati Indah Plaza to its current incarnation as Lippo Plaza Kramatjati, this mall has weathered challenges and embraced change.
