Conqueror of Oahu’s ridges prepare for a challenge. Mount Olympus also known as Awaawaloa awaits. This intermediate hike near Honolulu offers breathtaking views. The trail is 5 miles long. Mount Olympus is the sixth highest peak in the Ko’olau Mountain Range. It’s almost 2500 feet high. From its summit you can see Honolulu Diamond Head Ka’au Crater K-Bay The Mokes Three Peaks K1 K2 and even Mount Ka’ala on a clear day. The hike starts at the end of Alani Drive. Street parking is usually available. The trailhead is marked by a bend in the road. You’ll enter a forest following a road. There will be forks in the path. Always choose the right path to stay on course.
The ascent is long and slow. It rarely levels off until the summit. The climb is challenging but rewarding. As you climb you will see Honolulu. Views of Diamond Head will appear. Eventually you will reach impressive ridge views of Oahu’s windward and leeward sides. The most difficult part is a steep muddy climb. Ropes are available to aid in this section.
