Arthur S Richards entered Parliament in 1931 representing Roskill. He remained a dedicated MP until 1946. That year, he transferred to the Mount Albert electorate. He served as the senior Government whip. His dedication spanned from 1942 until his death.

Sadly, Arthur S Richards passed away on August 5, 1947. His death triggered a by-election. Warren Freer subsequently won the seat.
