Have you ever heard of a place called the Horn-Lehe? It is a district in Bremen, Germany, located in the eastern part of the city. It was formed from the villages of Horn and Lehe in 1951, a move made to simplify the city’s administration. The Horn-Lehe houses the University of Bremen and its surrounding technology park, known as the “Technologiestadtteil.”
The technology park was made possible thanks to an initiative started in 1988 called the Bremer Innovations- und Technologie-Zentrum. However, even with the technology park, there is a distinct mix of old and new in Horn-Lehe. In Horn, you will find attractive villas from the 18th century, which make it one of Bremen’s wealthiest districts. Lehe, on the other hand, is the most densely populated area of the district.
Horn-Lehe is a diverse district with a rich history, a district where old and new world collide. The district attracts students, families and senior citizens looking for a quiet place to live or work. It is, however, also full of history, with the Horner Church being one of the most prominent sights, attracting visitors from around the world. The Horn-Lehe has also been known as the “Hollerland”. The legend goes that the name comes from a group of Dutch people who were commissioned by the Archbishop of Bremen to cultivate the land between the 12th and 14th centuries.
The district is also known for its vibrant nightlife and cultural offerings. The Rhododendron-Park Bremen, located in Horn, offers over 3,000 plants, including a wide variety of rhododendrons and azaleas. The park comes to life especially in April and June, when the park’s flowers bloom. Visitors can also visit the Botanischer Garten, Botanika, and the Garden of Human Rights located within the Rhododendron-Park. But there’s more to discover. The district has several museums and historical sites, including the Universum Bremen, a science center, and the Botanika, a greenhouse filled with tropical plants.
No matter what your interests are, you are sure to find something to love about Horn-Lehe. It is a unique district with a lot to offer.
