“A mosque built from the generosity of one man,” whispered an elder to his grandson outside Masjid Nurul Hidayah. Masjid Nurul Hidayah stands as a testament to community spirit and the power of faith. It began humbly in 1968. It started as a small musholla, a place for prayer. The land, a mere 115 square meters, was gifted by a local resident named Harun. The community came together, contributing their time and resources to build the simple structure. It officially opened its doors on January 1st, 1968, coinciding with the Islamic New Year. In 1974, the local Islamic Holiday Committee, recognizing the growing needs of the community, spearheaded an initiative to expand the musholla. Under the leadership of the district head, they envisioned a grander mosque, Masjid Raya Nurul Hidayah. After discussions with Harun and community leaders, the transformation began on April 13th, 1975. Remarkably, within just three months, and at a cost of 2,250,000 rupiah, the expansion was complete. The inauguration coincided with the Islamic observance of Isra and Mi’raj, making it a doubly significant event. As Tanah Kusir continued to develop, so too did the needs of the community. The mosque faced demolition due to road widening. The community once again rallied. They formed the Nurul Hidayah Foundation on December 22nd, 1976, with the ambitious goal of securing new land and building a larger mosque. Masjid Nurul Hidayah, born from a single man’s generosity, continues to serve as a beacon of faith and community in Tanah Kusir.
