Step into the Greater Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. It’s a place of profound faith and rich history. The church has endured through a multitude of changes since its beginning in 1943. The congregation began in an unassuming location on Greenwood Avenue and served the community with dedication. It began with just 25 members. As the church grew, Reverend A. L. Wilson took the reins. And then came the vision of Reverend Emmanuel Hoskins, the church’s leadership passed to Reverend O.C. Nicks, and finally, in 1961, the church found a guiding hand in Reverend Dr. John D. Digby, Jr. Under Dr. Digby’s guidance, the congregation thrived. This strong leadership propelled the church to purchase a new property in 1965 and a new edifice was constructed by 1998, a testament to their commitment to serving their community. The church found its current home in 2003 at 26 E. 127th Street. This relocation marked the peak of the church’s growth. It became a cornerstone of hope and support for the community.
