Parroquia Santa Teresita del niu00f1o Jesu00fas began its journey in 1927. It rose from the grounds of San Roque. Oblate priests of the Virgin Mary spearheaded this mission. They established the Santa Teresita Catechetical Center too. A temporary chapel was built on church land. It opened for worship soon after. On October 7 1930 it officially became a parish. Santiago Copello the then Vicar General made it official. The parish opened its doors three days later.
For decades the church served the community. Its walls witnessed countless prayers. Joy and sorrow mingled within its sacred space. The year 1999 brought a significant addition a relic of Saint Therese.
A pivotal moment arrived on November 1 2004. Bishop Jorge Lozano presided over a mass. The Virgin of the Smile was blessed and enthroned. A large crowd of worshippers attended. The Virgin’s image was crowned in May 2012.
The story of the Virgin of the Smile intertwines with Saint Therese. She kept the image in her Lisieux home. She was severely ill both mentally and spiritually. Her mother’s death and life’s challenges led to this illness. On May 13 1883 during Pentecost she saw the Virgin. The Virgin smiled. Therese felt instantly healed.
Parroquia Santa Teresita del niu00f1o Jesu00fas celebrated its 80th anniversary on October 10 2010. Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio consecrated the church. A new altar was dedicated. It featured a bas-relief of the Last Supper. A new ambo was also built for this special occasion.
