Picture a sprawling housing complex. This is Fazenda Botafogo. It is located in the division of Acari, in Rio de Janeiro’s Zona Norte. Many people mistake Fazenda Botafogo as a neighborhood of its own. Some think it belongs to Coelho Neto. But Fazenda Botafogo is officially part of Acari.

Fazenda Botafogo’s story began in the late 1970s. It was created alongside the Distrito Industrial. The complex has 86 buildings. Each building contains 40 apartments. This gives an estimated 17000 residents. Besides the buildings, there are also houses from IAPC in Coelho Neto.

Fazenda Botafogo is bordered by the Acari River. It divides Pavuna, Costa Barros and Barros Filho. Avenida Pastor Martin Luther King Jr. and Metro Line 2 also form borders. They separate Fazenda Botafogo from Acari.

Transportation is plentiful here. Avenida Martin Luther King Jr. and Metro Line 2 are key. Avenida Brasil offers routes to Centro, Zona Oeste, Zona Norte and Baixada Fluminense. The Acari-Fazenda Botafogo metro station is conveniently located here.

In 2003, the Vila Olímpica Clara Nunes was inaugurated. Fazenda Botafogo is well-served by education. It has two municipal schools and two daycare centers. You’ll also find a residents association. A police station and a social center are here too. There is also ample commerce, a square, soccer fields and leisure areas.

Nearby is the PAM of Coelho Neto. There are also two more municipal schools. A state school and the Igreja de São Jerônimo are close too. Numerous private schools are in the area. The samba school Quilombo calls Fazenda Botafogo home.

The local media is represented by Mídia Comunitária Graça & Paz. It includes a radio station, newspaper and audiovisual studio. The Acari-Fazenda Botafogo station got its name from a former sugar mill. The mill operated here long ago. Building the station was a long-awaited achievement for residents.

The housing complex saw significant renovations. The Cehab invested 16.2 million reais in improvements. These works included facade repairs and painting. Concrete elements were treated. Water reservoirs were waterproofed. The renovations benefited over 13760 people. The 86 blocks comprising 3440 apartments, were all improved. Fazenda Botafogo was built in the early 1970s. The renovation was a long-standing wish of the residents.

Other improvements included roof repairs. Sewage pipes were fixed. Electrical installations were also upgraded. Fazenda Botafogo continues to evolve. It balances its history with the needs of its residents.
