Why is Kemnal Technology College here? Let’s journey back to 1954. The school began as Cray Valley Technical School. It occupied the former buildings of Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School.

Over the years, Kemnal Technology College has seen many changes. In 1968, it became Cray Valley Technical High School. Around 1970, it transitioned to Cray Valley Comprehensive. Then around 1977, it was renamed Kemnal Manor Upper School.

The school officially became Kemnal Technology College. This mixed secondary school is located in St Paul’s Cray Orpington. It resides within the London Borough of Bromley.

In February 2012, Kemnal Technology College achieved academy status. Before this, it was a community school. Bromley London Borough Council directly controlled it. Even as an academy, the school still coordinates admissions with the council. Kemnal Technology College has also been designated a Training school.

The college faced a challenge in late 2016. Floods in November and December forced closures. The school closed for three days in November. This was due to health and safety concerns. One more day was lost at the end of the Christmas term. Remedial works have since been completed.

Today, Kemnal Technology College offers a range of academic paths. Pupils can study for GCSEs and BTECs. Sixth form students can choose A Levels. Additional BTECs are also available. The school specializes in technology. It has extra resources to support this specialism.

The Kemnal Academies Trust oversees the school. Mr. Stuart Smith is the Headteacher. The school’s capacity is 700 pupils. However, recent numbers show around 556 pupils enrolled.

Kemnal Technology College also serves a diverse student body. Forty-seven percent of pupils are eligible for free school meals. This equates to about 258 students.

The college provides education for students aged 11 to 18. It operates as a non-selective academy. The school’s URN is 136281. Its Department for Education number is 305/5406. You can contact the school at 02083007112. The college’s website is www.ktc-tkat.org.

Kemnal Technology College is more than just bricks and mortar. It is a place of learning. It is a place of growth. It is a place of community for students in St Paul’s Cray.
