High above Vieux Lyon lies a serene escape. This is Le Jardin de la Visitation. It is a secret garden within the Parc des Hauteurs.

Originally, Le Jardin de la Visitation was the site of a convent. The convent of the Visitation was built from 1854 to 1858. In 1882, the grounds were enhanced. These enhancements included shrubbery, a shaded area, and a small fir forest.

The city of Lyon took over the garden in 1968. In 2008, it was then managed by the Hospices Civils.

In 2015, renovations began. Archaeological digs unearthed Roman artifacts. Researchers recovered 100 pieces of weaponry. They also found about 300 everyday objects.

Le Jardin de la Visitation is perched above the Gallo-Roman theater. It is only 500 meters from the Fourvière parking area. The garden offers a large green space. It also provides a beautiful view of a former cloister. This cloister has been transformed into a four-star hotel.

Locals and tourists frequent Le Jardin de la Visitation. It’s ideal for relaxation. You can also enjoy various activities here.

Le Jardin de la Visitation is perfect for picnics. Grassy paths line one side of the cloister. A wooded path borders the other side. This creates a peaceful setting.

As you explore Le Jardin de la Visitation, you will discover ruins. These are the ruins of two Gallo-Roman theaters. They are open to the public. You can explore them at your leisure.

For families, Le Jardin de la Visitation features a shaded playground. There are climbing structures and slides. You will also find a merry-go-round. A ship provides a setting for children’s pirate adventures.

You can organize your own games. From board games to giant wooden games, there is fun for everyone.

The Chemin de la Visitation borders the park. This small road is two kilometers long. It connects Rue Pauline Jaricot to the upper archaeological park.

Besides offering a magnificent view of Lyon, Le Jardin de la Visitation provides a refreshing, shaded play area. The garden features alleys that run alongside a 19th-century cloister. The cloister now houses the archives of the Hospices Civils de Lyon. A wooded path connects the Roman theaters in a rural setting.

Le Jardin de la Visitation is located at 23 Rue Roger Radisson. The retro-themed playground blends seamlessly with the adjacent 19th-century cloister. Children can enjoy the Nautilus play structure. It transports them under the sea. They can also enjoy slides, merry-go-rounds, and spring riders.
